Summit county proposal - Near the Frisco Adventure Center

Winter Frisco Proposal Story — Stephanie & Scott

Scott proposed to Stephanie during a winter trip to Colorado with their family. He wanted to include family members in the celebration while keeping the proposal as much of a surprise as possible. We chose an area near the Frisco Adventure Center, which also offers sleigh rides during the winter. The sleigh ride served as the perfect decoy, helping Stephanie enjoy a scenic walk without suspecting a thing.

Quick Snapshot of this Proposal Location Near the Frisco Adventure Center

  • Walking Distance: less than 1/2 mile (out and back)

  • Privacy Level: High (few people use this trail in winter)

  • Scenery: Mountain Views

  • Elevation: Approximately 9,500 ft

  • Best Time of Day: Afternoon - Evening

  • Approximate Driving Distance from Denver: Less than 1.5 hours

  • Accessible During What Seasons?: Year Round

  • Dog Friendly?: Yes, dogs are allowed.

  • Misc Notes: This proposal was done on a section of trail open to hiking and snowshoeing with packed, groomed snow.  Other winter trails in this area are limited without a Frisco Nordic Center pass. During non-ski months the trail is a bike path.

Near the sleigh ride check-in area, there are multi-use trails for snowshoeing and skiing. The groomed, packed snow made for an easy walk. Scott told Stephanie that someone had suggested walking the trail for views of Lake Dillon and the surrounding mountains. Although she was initially reluctant to walk much, she agreed once she learned it would be a short stroll.

I arrived early and got ahead of them on the trail. Pretending to be another visitor, I walked back toward the parking lot as Scott and Stephanie arrived with their family. When they stopped to ask me to take a group photo, one of their family members suggested a photo of just the two of them—that was my cue. Moments later, Scott dropped to one knee, surprising Stephanie with the proposal.

this location is near a sleigh ride check-in - which can be a good excuse to go here

The snowy scenery was magical, with snow-capped mountains behind them and snow blanketing the trail and nearby trees. Stephanie had picked out her ring a few months prior, so she knew the proposal was coming—but the timing and location still caught her by surprise. Afterward, I captured portraits of the entire family and took engagement photos of Stephanie and Scott along the trail.

Scott & Stephanie — I’m so glad you convinced Stephanie to enjoy a short walk and a sleigh ride. The winter scenery near Lake Dillon was stunning, and it was an honor to document this moment for you. Thank you for trusting me to create these lasting memories. Much love to you two!

Scott and Stephanie's family shared in the excitement and helped plan the moment
