Inidian peaks proposal - Brainard Lake

Brainard Lake Proposal Story — Matt & Madeline

Matt proposed to Madeline during a summer trip to Estes Park, and after talking through a few ideas, we decided to make the short 45-minute drive to Brainard Lake. The area offered more privacy than many Estes Park spots and had the kind of alpine scenery Matt was hoping for—mountain peaks, evergreen forest, and an alpine lake. It turned out to be a wonderful spot for this Colorado mountain proposal.

Matt didn’t have many specific requests when planning the proposal—he simply wanted a beautiful, scenic place where he could keep things simple and meaningful. Brainard Lake is one of my favorite Colorado proposal locations for exactly that reason. The alpine water framed by the Indian Peaks never disappoints. Even when the lake is busy, everyone naturally spreads out, so it rarely feels crowded.

We chose a spot along the north shore for the proposal moment. When Matt and Madeline arrived, I played the part of someone enjoying a snack by the water and gave them plenty of space. As soon as Matt dropped to one knee, I stepped in to capture the moment. Madeline was completely surprised—in the best way—and her reaction was full of joy.

After the proposal, we circled the lake for portraits, exploring the shoreline, the small shrubs and open trail areas, and the road near the campground lined with tall pine trees. We were lucky with the weather too—sunny skies, warm temperatures, and no afternoon rain showers.

Matt & Madeline — thank you for trusting me to photograph your Brainard Lake proposal. Capturing Madeline’s genuine surprise and happiness was such a joy. Much love to you both!

Rainstorms can be common here in the summer months during the afternoon
