Dan wanted to propose in the Colorado mountains, a place that held special meaning for Elizabeth. Although they lived in DC, Elizabeth grew up in Denver and has always loved the mountains, making Basalt the perfect setting for this intimate winter proposal.

They planned a trip to stay with her family in Denver and then spend some time in Basalt and do some skiing around Aspen. They often walked their dog around the Basalt Creek Path and so Dan decided that would be a great place to do the proposal. We found a clearing among the trees with a small mountain backdrop. Then we walked along the creek path for more portraits.
The things that were important to Dan were to do the proposal in a place close to where they were staying in Basalt to keep it as much of a surprise as possible. And to also pick an area that was more private. We saw maybe 2 or 3 other people the whole time we were there. It was a great place for what Dan was looking for. And the recent snow made it super beautiful, like we were in a winter wonderland.
