Aspen Area Proposal - Aspen Mountain

Aspen Mountain Spring Proposal Story - Weston & Kate

Weston proposed to Kate on the top of Aspen Mountain during the spring, using the sweeping mountain views as a backdrop for their proposal. They had been planning a trip to Aspen for a little while.  Weston thought it would be the perfect time to pop the question.

Quick Snapshot of this Aspen Mountain Proposal Location

  • Walking Distance: Under ½ mile

  • Privacy Level: Low-Medium (The top of the mountain is a popular & often busy area.  But there are some spots that are more private than others.)

  • Scenery: Mountain views, Forest, Scenic Overlook

  • Elevation: Approximately 11,000 ft

  • Best Time of Day: Late morning - afternoon

  • Driving Distance from Denver: 4 hours

  • Reasons to Go Here? Iconic Colorado Scenery

  • Accessible During What Seasons?: Summer, Fall, & Winter

  • Dog Friendly?: yes, dogs are allowed on the gondola

Weston wanted a location with minimal hiking and a way to incorporate a post-proposal surprise with family members at The Hotel Jerome. Aspen Mountain was a good fit for all those things.

During the winter, you can ride the Aspen Mountain Gondola without a ski pass by purchasing a sightseeing ticket. At the top, there are several beautiful spots with panoramic views—perfect for a Colorado mountain proposal. Since Weston didn’t want to walk far, we chose a viewpoint close to the gondola exit.

The trade-off was less privacy, but he and Kate were totally fine with that. They waited for a moment when the area cleared out and then asked me to take a photo of them.  That was my cue to be ready to capture the proposal.  I took a photo with Weston's phone and then he dropped to one knee. I tucked his phone in my pocked and then switched to my main cameras and captured the whole moment.

After their proposal, we explored a few nearby trails for some portraits before heading back down the mountain. I took the gondola first so I could get ahead of them for the second surprise of the day—family waiting at the historic Hotel Jerome in downtown Aspen. Kate was completely shocked (in the best way) when she arrived outside of the hotel and saw everyone there. It was such a meaningful way to wrap up their proposal experience.

Weston & Kate — thank you for trusting me to photograph your Aspen Mountain proposal. It was a gorgeous spring day in Colorado, and I loved documenting these memories for you both. Much love to you two!
